Abdullah Khan, CEO

Mr. Abdullah Khan has a total working experience of 24 years in the academic and consultancy fields which includes over 16 years of professional consulting and engineering experience in India and overseas. He started his career with an academic job at the Jawahar Lal Nehru University in New Delhi, India, which is a Premier National Institution and worked there for 7 years. He has been involved in Computer Systems Consultancy, Project Management, Environmental Impact Assessment & Auditing, Institutional Development and Training for both the Public Sector and the Private Sector. He has a wide range of experience in Management Information Systems, Database Management, Decision Support Systems, Energy Management and Technology and Environmental Management and Geographic Information Systems.

At present Mr. Khan is President and CEO of IRAMCONSULT and has seen through the development of this company into an important and leading consultancy company in India in the areas of Environmental Technology and Management, CAD & GIS and Information Technology and Computer Softwares. Mr. Khan has been a member of various project formulation and evaluation missions on behalf of International multilateral and bilateral financing agencies.

Experience record:

From 1984:

Working as President and CEO of IRAMCONSULT since its inception. Working as Senior Consultant for undertaking assignments in the field of Management Information Systems, Project Management, Institutional Development and Training, Energy Management, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit and Geographic Information Systems.

1976-1984:

• Worked as Systems Engineering Consultant (Assistant Professor) in the School of Computer and Systems Sciences, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. Areas of expertise included Distributed Database Systems, Decision Support Systems, Coordination of Training Programmes in the field of Management Information Systems, Environmental Resource Management, Environmental Modeling using computers, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audits.

• Association with International Projects / Agencies:

• Joined Collaborative Project team of UNIDO/IIASA Austria in Doon Valley Project in India

• Member of Fact Finding Mission for Kanpur Mirzapur Project sponsored by the Dutch Directorate General of Development Cooperation, The Netherlands.

• Worked as Project Co-Director of the Indo-Dutch Environmental and Sanitary Engineering Project Kanpur - Mirzapur under Ganga Action Plan since its inception in 1987.

• Joined Indo/US group for District Rehabilitation Centre Project. This Project was under the Ministry of Welfare, Govt. of India, funded by the National Institute for Handicap Research, Washington, USA.

• Resource expert for Identification Mission of DGIS , on Indo-Dutch Training programme in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment. Resource Expert in EIA workshops. This project was in collaboration with GEOPLAN, The Netherlands.

• Member of Identification Mission for formulation of Training work plan for Indo-Dutch Environmental and Sanitary Engineering Project in Kanpur-Mirzapur, Under Ganga Action Plan. This was a DGIS Project.

• Project Co-Director and Advisor Training and MIS of the Indo-Dutch Environmental and Sanitary Engineering Project, Kanpur-Mirzapur Under Ganga Action Plan. This is a DGIS Project.

• Advisor MIS and Environmental Management Training modules in the Indo-Dutch PMU Project, Hyderabad, for preparation of Training Materials for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on behalf of IRAMCONSULT. The project was jointly carried out by IRAMCONSULT, WAMANA, India and DHV, IMEconsult, The Netherlands.

Relevant expertise:

• Mr. Khan has been involved in several research and development projects concerning environmental management and systems development including:

• Development of Draft Urban Environmental Policy of India as an Urban Environmental Policy expert. This policy document was prepared for Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

• Project Manager for Environmental Impact Assessment of Tourism Infrastructure Development Project along the Puri-Konark coastal stretch of Orissa State, India.

• Expert member of technology evaluation and selection team set up by Pakistan Tanners Association for establishing common effluent treatment plants for tannery waste water treatment in Pakistan.

• Computer Aided Instructions (CAI) Development of Methodology and Software for school level teaching in India.

• Interactive methods and Decision Support Systems for project management tasks.

• Decision Support Systems for Environmental Impact Assessment and Resource Management.

• GIS Applications in Environmental Resource Management.

• Study of the Institutional and Organisational aspects of Organisations which have undergone Automation.

• Environmental Management Models for UNIDO sponsored study in Dehradun, India, with special reference to energy balance and development of renewable energy systems.

• MIS and training expert for Environmental Management Training modules in the Indo-Dutch Project (PMU), Hyderabad, for preparation of Training Materials for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

• On the invitation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the Vietnam Government in Hanoi, Mr. Khan has participated in two missions as an Environmental Management Expert to support the formulation of the Project for the Environmental Master Plan of West Lake in Hanoi, Vietnam.

• As Project Leader in a number of Environmental Management, EIA and EA assignments in Saudi Arabia and other Middle East Countries. He has presented more than 20 research and discussion papers at various seminars in India and abroad on subjects of Evironmental Technology, Environmental Management, Decision Support Systems and Institutional aspects.

• As Project Leader of the Dal Lake Conservation Project in Srinagar, Kashmir. The Project involves development of GIS based Project Area Maps and Engineering Planning Database, Preparation of Detailed Designs and Project Report for Pollution Abatement, Eco-Restoration and Lake Conservation Schemes.
