Scope of Work:
-
Preparation of Master Plans for
the 3 services of sewerage/sanitation, surface water
drainage and solid waste for the city of Lucknow. Modeling
of improvement options, Water quality modeling and
monitoring, cost benefit analysis etc.

Nullah sub projects for
community based improvements of specific areas of the city
focusing on the sewerage/sanitation, surface water drainage
and solid waste of the city.

Technical sub-projects for
continuation of sewer cleaning activities, diversion of
Gaughat drain at the upstream of Gomti, construction and
rehabilitation of pumping stations, possible additional
capital engineering works on the sewerage system.
Description of
the Project:
The Gomti Action Plan project
phase I activities started in November 1995 and are proposed
to be completed by the end of May 1997. The project is funded
by ODA and NRCD is the official nodal agency. The UP Jal Nigam,
Lucknow is the implementing agency. The objective of the phase
I project is to prepare a satisfactory design for the phase II
project, define the approach and objectives of the phase II
project, develop a strategy for implementing integrated plans
including design options developed and identify the ways and
means to strengthen the key institutional structures and
systems. The goal of Gomti phase II project is people living
in Lucknow and downstream Gomti River experience improved
health and well associated with a cleaner city and river
environment. The purpose is sustained reduction in health
hazards for people in specified areas and downstream and
pollution in river Gomti.
In the Gomti Action Plan phase I
project, the master plans for the sewerage/sanitation, surface
water drainage and solid waste for the city of Lucknow have
been prepared. The master plan includes information on the
ways and means to improve the Gomti river quality through
water quality modeling and monitoring, future population
projections and development pattern of Lucknow city,
quantities of sewage generation in various sections of Lucknow
city, options for the most economic ways and means for sewage
transport and treatment, identification of the fresh sewer
lines to be laid and rehabilitation of the existing ones,
selection of the most appropriate technology for sewage
treatment, selection of the most appropriate treatment site,
prepare estimates of solid waste generation and identification
of the most appropriate scheme for solid waste collection and
disposal. The master plan also provides information on the
scheduling of the activities to be undertaken in the Gomti
Action Plan phase II project. The project apart from master
planning also provided services to Nallah cleaning project
under the Nallah sub-projects. Under the technical
sub-projects services were provided for the rehabilitation of
existing pumping stations, sewer cleaning activities,
diversion of Gaughat drain.
