COMPUTERIZED MAPPING AND
GIS DEVELOPMENT OF DAL LAKE AND CATCHMENT AREA, SRINAGAR,
INDIA
Period: June,
1997–July, 1998
Dal Lake Conservation Project (DLCP)
at Srinagar has been formulated under the National Lake
Conservation Plan (NLCP) of MoEF, GOI with 100% funding by GOI,
under the IXth Plan. The total cost of the project as given in
the Project Feasibility report (PFR) is approx. Rs. 297 crores.
The PFR has been approved by GOI and the project is under
Design and Detailed Engineering stage. The nodal agency for
the project is J&K Housing & Urban Development Department. The
J&K Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LWDA), Srinagar
is the project implementing agency. IRAMCONSULT, New Delhi are the consultants to J&K LWDA, Srinagar.
Computerized mapping and GIS
development of Dal Lake and the catchment area at Srinagar is
one of the schemes being implemented under the DLCP at
Srinagar. For the planning and detailed engineering of the
various technical schemes, Maps of Dal Lake and catchment area
were scanned, digitized and geo-coded. The DLCP covers an area
of 125 Sq. Km in Srinagar City. The existing survey of India
paper maps of the project area were digitised and updated
using field surveys (using theodoilite, total stations and
GPS) and with use of IRS 1C satellite imagery obtained from
the NRSA. The scope of work for IRAMCONSULT included digitisation
of 1:1000 scale survey of India maps (84 No.), Updation of
maps through field surveys, Updation of landuse pattern of the
base map using IRC 1C satellite imagery and Integration of the
maps of different scales available with the authorities of the
J&K LWDA.
