Jhelum river conservation project
(JRCP), Jammu & Kashmir State is formulated under the National
river conservation plan (NRCP) of the Ministry of Environment
(MoEF), Govt. of India (GOI). The four towns, namely Anantnag,
Srinagar, Sopore and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir State have
been identified as contributing pollution to river Jhelum and
are therefore covered in Jhelum River Conservation Plan. For
the prevention of pollution and conservation of the river,
IRAMCONSULT, New Delhi prepared a Project
Feasibility report (PFR) of the four towns. The PFR prepared
assessed the environmental degradation of river Jhelum and
proposed a feasible action plan for its conservation as per
the guidelines of National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD),
MOEF, GOI, New Delhi.
Scanned, and digitized the
paper maps of these four towns and integrated survey data of
respective towns collected by IRAMCONSULT on to the maps. The
Base maps then were prepared and used in the planning of
interventions for river pollution.
